Who is biko

Although the ban restricted him to his home in Kings William's Town, he was still able to continue working for the BPC, and even help set up the Zimele Trust Fund which assisted political prisoners and their families. The doctors who examined him naked, lying on a mat and manacled to a metal grille initially disregarded overt signs of neurological injury. Steve Biko's death caused an international outcry, and he was instantly lifted to a status of martyrdom and a symbol of Black resistance to the oppressive apartheid regime. The South African government fought this public appeal to Biko by instantly banning several individuals and organizations that were associated with Steve Biko.

He died in while studying towards a law degree through the University of South Africa. Biko was four. Biko, the third of four children, had an older sister Bukelwa, an older brother Khaya, and a younger sister, Nobandile. He felt responsible for the community especially for the education of the community. This is because when he passed his junior certificate the community of Ginsberg collected money to send him to school.
The organisation focused on projects in Health, Education, Job Creation and other areas of community development. It was not long before his banning order was amended to restrict him from any meaningful association with the BCP. Biko could not meet with more that one person at a time. He could not participate in public functions nor could he be published or quoted. These restrictions on him and others in the BCM and their regular arrests, forced the development of a multiplicity of layers of leadership within the organisation in order to increase the buoyancy of the organisation.
Notwithstanding the challenges, the local Black Community Programme office did well, managing among other achievements to build and operate Zanempilo Clinic, the most advanced community health centre of its time built without public funding. According to Dr. Ramphele and Dr. Solombela served as resident doctors at Zanempilo Clinic. Biko was also instrumental in founding in the Zimele Trust Fund set up to assist political prisoners and their families.
Zimele Trust did not discriminate on the basis of party affiliation. In addition, Biko set up the Ginsberg Educational Trust to assist black students. This trust was also a plough-back to a community that had once assisted him with his own education.
