When is holden caulfield depressed

Throughout the book, Holden feels depressed. This act causes the teenager to alienate himself from the parents and the society. Salinger, Holden Caulfield feels neglected by his parents. His relationship with them shows he is emotionally unsteady.

Also, his old teacher, Mr. Antolini, makes an unwanted move and Caulfield decides to alienate himself from him. Holden, from Catcher in the Rye, decides to see his teacher Mr. Spencer offers Holden no reassurance that things will be better for Holden, instead he blames Holden for not trying hard enough, putting him in uncomfortable position.

Throughout his journey I noticed symptoms of substance abuse, pathological lying, and even slight PTSD. Holden fulfills several of the symptoms of depression including having a difficulty making decisions, irresponsible behavior, and rebellious behavior, feelings of hopelessness, substance abuse, and withdrawal from friends.

But along the way, Holden dealt with substance abuse, which can be caused and lead to a mental illness. For obvious reasons, his use of substances affects his depression and social life. Holden also is forward with the fact that he is a pathological liar. Leads him to be more depressed and feel empty and lonely. Throughout the book Holden seems very depressed and really down as if he just didn't care about anything like school,his education,and putting in effort in his life to doing better;instead ,he ran to drinking and cigarettes for comfort and just gave up at life.

He desperately tries to protect people he considers innocent while simultaneously trying to prove to readers how he can act like an adult.
