By Vivian Goldschmidt, MA. She saw my expression of surprise, and almost apologetically explained that her grandchildren loved milk, so she had bought it especially for their visit. IGF-1 is impervious to pasteurization and even digestion, meaning it is absorbed into the bloodstream virtually unchanged.
The problem is, they grow the wrong things in humans — like cancer cells. Yet another problem with this synthetic hormone is that is makes cattle more susceptible to infections of the udder, which necessitates the use of antibiotics.
More on antibiotics in milk later. Remember, even cows who were never administered rBGH do not produce hormone-free milk. As I mentioned above, when cows are given rBGH, it makes them susceptible to chronic mastitis an infection of the udder. If the milk cow is healthy, somatic cells are no big deal. In sick and infected cows, however, somatic cells are greatly increased in number and take the form of neutrophils, or the cells that form pus.
Bear that in mind when you consider this fact: the average number of somatic cells present in American milk is 1,, And most of those are pus. The nutrition-based Osteoporosis Reversal Program is full of delicious, bone-rejuvenating Foundation Foods. It emphasizes whole, fresh foods — particularly fruits and vegetables — and I recommend organic, because pesticides are toxic and detrimental to your bones and your health. Despite the ban, DDT is fiercely persistent in the environment, particularly in soil.
The cattle ingest this when they eat hay, corn, grass, etc. The list goes on to include endosulfan sulfate, which disrupts the endocrine system, and 3-hydroxycarbofuran which is a very toxic byproduct of carbamate insecticide breakdown.
The bottom line is that by avoiding milk, you are steering clear of a major source of pesticide exposure and ingestion. Cheese is acidifying, as are all dairy products that are not fermented and do not contain probiotics. Many of you have written in and asked about raw, unpasteurized, organic milk and have correctly pointed out that it is generally less contaminated than processed, pasteurized, homogenized milk.
As I mentioned above, all milk contains hormones. Store-bought milk has synthetic rBGH, and raw, organic milk has natural hormones intended to boost the growth of calves…it is not intended for people. Also, pesticide residue can still be found in organic, grass-fed milk due to the persistence of pesticides in the environment.
Finally, raw milk that is safe and affordable is very difficult to obtain. In addition to distilled water with lemon juice, bone-healthy lemonade , and other healthful beverages, I drink unsweetened almond milk as a bone-healthy milk alternative. There are many other nut milks available as well, such as hemp and coconut. You can easily make your own nut milks at home, too, from hazelnuts, cashews, almonds, and so forth — the internet is full of DIY recipes for these wholesome beverages. This is a good choice if you want to avoid sugar and other additives that sometimes make their way into commercial nut milks.

Just nature, at its simplest. And those populations were predominant in Britain, Ireland, Etc…as you stated. Can you cite? Not all cows are given antibiotics and not all of them have mastitis and if they have mastitis you should put that milk in a bucket and feed it to calves and cats. I know this because I work on a dairy farm and we do NOT put milk with mastitis into the bulk tank it is fed to the calves and the cats.
I stopped drinking milk for more than 1 year now. Then I started drinking almond milk. Then I read the ingredients in almond milk so I stopped drinking that. The hormone present is due to bad agricultural practice not because of the nature of the milk itself. The very reason why many people chose vegan lifestyle is because of capitalism.

I do believe everything you say because I use silk almond milk it is not real milk, it is milk made from almond and chessecloth. I am vegan but I agree with your descriptions. A further problem the cows experience is repeated infections, such as mastitis.
This is an infection of the udder that causes them to feel unwell and causes great pain, especially when they are expected to continue producing milk. On top of that, it is also one of the most common reasons for dairy cows to be sent to the slaughterhouse. Although the natural lifespan of a cow is approximately 20 years, those living on dairy farms will typically only live for four or five years. This is because of the stress put on their bodies from the conditions they live in, the illnesses they suffer and the continuous cycle of pregnancy and milking.
The process of dairy farming is also cruel to the calves produced as a result of the aforementioned insemination. They are taken away from their mothers as soon as one day after birth, which is distressing for both the mother and the calf. The female calves are either kept so they can later produce milk or they are sent to slaughter. Male calves are often removed from their mother and raised for between three and 18 weeks so they can be used for veal.
Instead, this milk is used for human consumption and the calves are fed a synthetic replacement that includes many artificial ingredients intended to make the calves gain an unnatural amount of weight so that they can be sold quicker for their meat. As with so much of the consumption of animal products, there really is no good reason to continue drinking milk these days.
